Glitter Suppliers

Stores & info will be added as they are found.

Update 1/05/20... Dead links have been repaired or removed so I'm sure all these stores still exist. I have not gone through the individual stores to check content.

Confused by particle sizes and want to know exactly what size you're buying? Read Glitter Size Explanation for a conversion chart & a visual example.

With all glitters color-fastness/bleeding can be an issue. Want to know what bleeds out of those I own? Read my entry, Bleeding Glitter List.

Glitter used in nail polish does not have to be cosmetic grade, it can be craft glitter, automotive metal flakes, even the glitter used for fishing lures because most glitter is all the same material, polyester though some have an aluminum core and some do not. Glass glitter cannot be used in polish nor can it be used for any other type of wearable medium.

This is the list of all the cosmetic and craft glitter suppliers, the occasional fishing supply store and others that don't fit elsewhere. It includes prices, sizes of containers and samples, whether they are sold by weight or volume and what they break down to per gram (listed in red). I have also included available shipping info, size/shape of the glitter/flakes and whether the company accepts PayPal for payment. Currently in alphabetical order. All stores unless otherwise noted are located in the U.S.A. & will ship international.

The second half, automotive suppliers, has been moved to its own page but please check it out for the automotive flakes.

I myself have emailed about bleeding and was told, "I’m guessing you are referring to our Dazzler line of Flakes? They are polyester and should not bleed in nail polish. I’m afraid each color is different and we have found that a few of the darker opaque glitter colors will fade a little. However since the flakes are all transparent, they have a pretty good chance of not bleeding. I’m sorry I don’t have a definite answer for you, we have not been able to test our over 600 colors in this situation."

  1. Thanks so much for putting together these resources in one place! Do you by any chance have an idea of what the opalescent flakes in polish like Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure is called and where it can be bought?

    ReplyDelete
  2. I wish I did! They are clearly flakes but what type of material I don't know. I've never used flakes in a franken but my experience with opalescent glitters is that they simply bleed away into nothing. You just gave me something else to research, thanks =) Will let you and everyone else know if I find anything out. -MK

  3. I love that you have done this for us, thanks so much! I'm thinking about trying some of the glitters from confetti.com. I called the company and asked if they know of anyone using them in nail polish. She said yes, and that they've come back for repeat orders, but that she can't guarantee all colors. Also, on their FAQ's page, it says that the iridescent and prismatic don't bleed, but the metallics can. So I'm wondering: have you tried any of the confetti.com in your frankens?? :)

    ReplyDelete
  4. Rachel, no, I don’t own any glitters from Confetti.com although I continue to think about it. I too read that on the FAQ but I am unconvinced when experience says they are going to bleed. In fact what they say is the exact opposite of my experience. I also don’t know that they are distinguishing between glitter in nail polish and glitter used for nail art- Rainbow Turtle and Art Glitter make similar claims but as with Confetti.com, they don’t guarantee colorfastness. I don’t own those either but I emailed to enquire. And really, for the package size versus the price, you get a better deal going automotive.

  5. Another thought I had- if you want a guarentee, buy Kleancolor polishes to franken with. They are affordable at $1.75 and have a wide array of glitter in multiple sizes.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Rachel, Confetti.com ships only via FedEx- spend $20.00, they are going to charge at least $10.00.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Thank you so much for this info! Extremely helpful! One more question, if you don't mind :) Have you found large-sized glitter (square or hex) that doesn't melt or bleed? I have seen quite a few people adding awesomely large glitter to their polishes, and I can't seem to find any!

    ReplyDelete
  8. Rachel, the answer to that is no. I'm still on the fence about the larger glitters I bought from Kit Kraft because it looks like within one color, some flecks bled while others didn't. Those companies that sell larger sizes charge too damn much for shipping and I'm not spending big bucks on a product that may not work. If $3.00 worth didn't work, I can live with that but finding out that $20.00 worth didn't work is a bitter pill to swallow. If you know who is using the larger size successfully, ask them where they got it but don't be surprised if they don't answer, particularly if they also happen to be selling their creations.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Yeah, I'm with you on the cost thing. I see all these fabulous glitters, but I can't spend that much on something I'm unsure of. I'll keep asking around :) Thanks so much for your help, I really appreciate it!

  10. Here are some recent failed attempts.
I picked up the Crystalina Flakes Sample Pack and they all bled so don't bother with that type.
I also found this stuff called Angelina Film and I got the one called Aurora Borealis, it's a thin plastic colored film used for crafting.
I ground it up fine in a coffee grinder and it looked like it might really work (i was sooo excited) but that bled as well.

    ReplyDelete
  11. skrakablam, I'm glad you told me this as I was in fact considering the sample packs. I suspected that the Crystalina glitters would bleed simply because of the AB effect though it would be nice to find one that didn't.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Yeah, I kinda figured they would bleed but I reallyreally didn't want them to!

    ReplyDelete
  13. I bought Art Glitter Dazzlers in color "Rockettes" and it bled right after touching the nail polish!

    1. Thank you for that info, going to add that to the bleeding glitter list.

  14. do you have any idea where to find the big glitters that famous frankeners like L...erella, and nerd.. are using?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. No, most of the "famous frankeners" are tight-lipped about their suppliers, I'm sure they have their various reasons for doing so. Chunky glitters can be found many places but my first recommendation would be TCP Global which is automotive or possibly Kit Kraft Inc because they sell larger sizes of craft glitter. I have had mixed success with Kit Kraft, TCP Global's products have held up perfectly. As with most things, there are no guarantees.

  15. Speaking of "famous L******ella" does anyone have an idea where she got the bLack and white bar hex and dot (matte?? I mean IS there such a thing as a matte glitter! Obviously there is!) glitters for "Conn t D s"? I don't want to "trod" on her profit but seriously she doesn't make enough of it go around! I would GLADLY buy 10 bottles of the stuff from her IF it were available! Hope you can help!

    1. I have no idea where Lynderella or any of the other frankeners selling their creations get their supply and I suspect it will remain that way. You don't hear of Nfu Oh telling us where their flakes come from either.

      Delete
    2. I have had success with Kit Kraft's polyester glitters, all except the pink neon. The white glitter also holds up in polish, though the cut is a bit chunkier than usual - which adds some bulk to the polish.

      Delete
  16. Is everyone afraid to say Lynderella's name or what? I think she knows by now people talk about her.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I honestly was so confused about why Lynderella's name was blocked.

      Delete
    2. You and me both. That somehow reminds me of high school- better not let the popular girl know you're talking about her! Bah, Lynderella is a chick just like the rest of us.

      Delete
  17. Oh..she probably has her name REGISTERED BY NOW! I would think that it would be HARDER to get Nfu's flakies because she's based out of south korea and who knows WHAT kind of "textiles" they're concocting over there...I would think its harder to get because Nfu has all those asian connections (and WE only have that stupid "alibaba dot com" search engine.) I've read Nfu's formulations are also "made in france" so there's another continent to search for those flakies! As for Lynderella's glitters and flakes one would think it would be EASIER to find in the US because at least I would ASSUME she gets the supplies from a company within the states..but that's just my guess!

  18. Hello,

  19. Does anyone know if the glitter from glittergaloreandmore.com works for frankens? It says on the bottom of their bulk container page that they are but it also describes all of their glitter as holo even though only 7 of them are under the holo category.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I'm sorry but I personally have never tried any of theirs. I don't know what section you were looking under but what I found for the cosmetic glitters was this: "Sprinkle or apply it to your wet nail polish for glamour nails." This implies that it won't work when used in polish or they simply don't know. You could email and ask but I'd consider it a crap-shoot. That's a fairly high price for something that may not work.

      Delete
    2. I just bought the entire sample pack for their glitters - so far I have tested the neons which are all colorfast. I will try to come back and post when I get around to testing all 80 glitters - but if I forget I will be posting the results on www.indiepolish.org

Also, really appreciate you taking the time to compile and list all of these suppliers!

      Delete
    3. Thanks for the information. I did email them on Thursday and have yet to get a reply. Glad to hear the neons are colorfast, I've been itching to try some of these but have not ordered any because of the high price and not knowing if they would hold up.

Thanks also for the list. Cuts down on a lot of footwork I'd have to do myself. :-)

    4. just wanted to add that I found the "solvent resistant" description by using the search function on glittergaloreandmore.com and when you put it in it comes up with 3 results. they are all bulk quantities of "Holographic glitter, polyester glitter and neon glitter." if you look at each one, there is a drop down menu of colors and under the list of colors it has a pink product description box that says "solvent resistant." I made a list of all the glitters under the original 3 search hits and at first I thought it was a complete list of their glitter colors but after closer inspection found that it is not a complete list. Since A.Fae says the neons are colorfast and they are listed as being solvent resistant on the website, this leads me to believe they may of actually tested their glitters for color fastness. Hopefully I'll have a definate answer tomorrow or tues if and when I get a reply email from them.

      Delete
    5. I also emailed them before I bought and they said that despite being listed as solvent resistant - they "do not test for applications". They advised me to buy the sample pack, so I would advise either buying a sample pack or waiting until my (or someone else) testing is finished. I agreed with MK, "solvent resistant" has definitely lost its meaning to me after so many tries, and fails, with glitter.

      Good luck :)

    6. I just purchased the sample pack from glittergaloreandmore.com I figures if I was going to spend $50 on a handful of colors (ok, maybe a couple handfuls :-p ) I might as well get the samples so I can have ALLLL the colors!

  20. Envy Nail Supply has multiple sizes and colors of solid glitter (listed as ultra fine, fine, medium, and large). They used to list white glitter, but it seems to have disappeared, which did work in polish. Their black glitter is not colorfast, it bleeds to a gunmetal color. They also list various mixes of glitter, which I have not finished testing.

  21. As far as solvent resistance, I quote what I have before: "Each chip of glitter has a minute edge of exposed aluminum created when the particle is cut from the sheet. Therefore, caustics and all chemicals normally affecting pure aluminum could react with this exposed edge. This does not preclude use of this glitter with these chemicals, however, since the short duration of most industrial processes may not afford enough time to cause significant damage to the finished product. It is advised that contact be checked carefully." Emphasis on the "short duration of processes". Frankening is not a short process, it's long term. This quote came from a manufacturer, the Glitterex Corporation, on a MSDS sheet for their Poly*Flake glitters. Even they are saying, listed as solvent resistant or not, it may bleed which is why that phrase doesn't mean a whole lot to me.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Have you tried any of the Glitterex glitter (or know anyone who has) besides the three Poly*Flake glitters that you have listed in the bleeders list? I would like to order some, but don't want to waste my money if someone has tried them and they bleed.

    2. And while I'm at it... I was checking out one of the fishing supply stores you have listed on this page, and came across this: http://www.caneycreekmolds.com/X2-Colorant_p_328.html

What do you think about using something like this to color polish? Do you think it would disperse? Do you have any alternate ideas for liquid colorants? I wish they had an ingredient list on there. Powdered pigments don't always make the best jellies, but I don't want to be using preexisting polishes all the time, either.

  22. I have been slowly collecting and testing black and white glitters to try to make my own connect-the-dots style polish. I have one really great success for a medium black hex glitter: Art Glitter Dazzler "D22 Black Hills" is colour fast and the doesn't warp in the polish. I also found a black/dark blue ultra-fine glitter "Deep Space" which did not bleed at all. These tests have held up after 2 weeks.

Sadly, all the other Art Glitter Dazzlers I have tried have either bled, or warped so badly in the polish that they no longer shine or sit nicely on your nail: D18 Showgirl (Red), D12 Surfs up (Aqua), D21 Aphrodite (dark purple) are all total fails.

  24. I've ordered a couple of the 3mm Erikonail glitters from NailDeRoyale. So far they are completely solvent resistant. I've had them submerged for about a month now with no problems. However, they are super expensive. Their packages are tiny jars that hold approximately a teaspoon of glitter. Sorry, I don't know how many grams that is, but it's certainly one of the more expensive glitters.

    1. You can find these on Glitter Unique, a supplier listed on the Glitter Supplier page as well as at You Mix Cosmetics. Glitter Unique lists these as "shreds" in either a purple-blue color or in silver like those in the picture you linked to, $3.50 per 1/2 ounce. I'm fairly certain You Mix Cosmetics sells the silver variety at least but the shop is closed and not due to reopen until July 2nd so I can't confirm that.

  29. You should probably add Lurecraft (http://www.lurecraft.com/content/) and M-F manufacturing (http://www.pouryourownworms.com/) to this list. Those two, plus Caney Creek, have the largest variety of high heat resistant glitters, all of which are solvent resistant.

  30. I ordered from m-f and the glitter is kinda strange, and there are lots of little bits in the glitter, not like hexagons or squares but like scraps from when they cut it mixed in with the hexagons and the squares. It would be fine, but you can't actually sit down with something that tiny and pick every single scrap piece of glitter out. So they're out for me. The search continues.

  32. Oh really? M-F has a lot of error pieces? That sucks. I've seen larger glitters have errors, but it depends on the supplier. Their small (0.015 and below) glitters are nice so far. Their prices aren't great, and their customer service needs work however, compared to the other fishing places.

ch0colata: you should look into TKB's White Diamond glitter. It's 0.004, and an iridescent mix.

  34. I have four colors in tiny baggies I picked up years ago at a scrapbook convention that are perfectly colorfast. Wish I had supplier info. They shouldn't be glass as that would not be photo safe, but is there any way to figure that out?

Also, all that poly flake looks an awful lot like the fake snow I bought last year at Christmas time. Quart sized bad full of it for maybe $5.99 at Hobby Lobby. Big mix of sizes, I'd need to sift it somehow, but worth investigating!

Can I test glitter in acetone? I'm feeling sad about all the wasted polish...

    C) In addition to our Etsy store we have created a new website/blog www.theglittersource.com where you can purchase and get information on our glitters, but where we will also be blogging and sharing information on all things Glitter.

  39. Hello, I love you blog as it is a great resource for my frankening. I was wondering if you owned any of the You Mix glitters? Specifically the .40 hex ones. Some of them look pretty bright, and I'm really in the need for some larger neon glitters. If you know where to any that would be very helpful too. Thank you!

    1. I have some of You Mix's glitters but none that has been recent inventory. Out of what I used I didn't have any problems with bleeding or curling but again, I haven't used them all. As far as usable neons, what I know is already on here somewhere.

  46. Hi Melyssa,

Jordan from Kit Kraft here. Thanks for compiling this great list of suppliers and information. Just wanted to give you updated information since we've improved a few things recently.

    - We offer flat rate $4.95 ground shipping for all US orders under $99. Orders over $99 ship free. This usually means USPS but sometimes we ship FedEx if its cheaper. Of course we still offer a choice of shipping upgrades if you like for faster service.
    - We accept credit cards as well as PayPal.
    - We have a brand new line of cosmetic grade glitters that are also solvent resistant (a pretty broad term, I know!) and are working on improving the solvent resistance of many of our existing colors. As I'm sure you know, our PVC craft glitters are not designed to be used in nail lacquers and polishes and will often bleed. Many of our polyester glitters, however, perform better.

I was hoping to contact you directly to ask your opinion on some other products we are working on that you will be interested in, but I couldn't find your email. Please send an email to jordan at kitkraft dot com!

  47. Hi there - AMAZING info on your site here. Starting a glitter body paint business and was wondering if you know whether or not craft glitter (non-toxic) is safe for use on skin in Canada/North America?

We are searching for large 1/4" glitter squares that are cosmetic grade, but they appear much harder to find. We plan to have our clients sign a waiver regardless (about not getting in eyes/unexpected irritations) but would like to source the highest quality/safest glitter for skin and face (not near eye) application. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!!
