Latest News from the Bermuda Triangle of Ky

I'm an erratic poster anyway so I probably don't but I feel like I owe my readers an explanation as to why I've posted none of what I said I planned on and why I probably won't anytime soon.

We, my husband and I, had been talking about moving deeper into Kentucky, perhaps looking into buying a house and getting out of this small apartment and my boys out of this useless school system- we were going to go look this weekend. However, earlier last week my father, who is in a wheelchair to start with, severely injured himself and is now in the hospital and has been since Wednesday. From there he will go to in an in-patient rehab center for 7 to 14 days. He lives alone so who knows what will happen then. Around the same time, I, like a dumb ass, fell and twisted my ankle which is the worst timing possible. My father was difficult before and this only adds a new layer of complication to everything. In short, I am a tad stressed, overwhelmed and simply not inclined to involve myself in anything. I have no energy to do so. I'm sorry, I hope this will eventually resume some semblance of my normal life but who knows when that will happen.

As an aside, my site has gotten a lot of traffic and probably a lot of new followers due to mentions on forums, other's blogs and just because my blog is listed on someone's side bar. Just wanted to let you know that I do notice and I do appreciate them, thank you.-MK

  1. I think even if you never posted again, your blog would still be great. What you have already posted is very valuable!!! Of course, I hope you do continue to post every now and again!!

Is it me or has frankening/custom polish become more popular lately?? I notice it a lot more, but maybe that is because I'm looking for it???

    1. No, it's not you, it's everywhere now. Not only are there more companies supplying the items, there are more women frankening and even more selling their frankens. You might as well ask the typical chicken or egg question- who came first, Dr. Frankenpolish or Lynderella... and I'm not saying either is better or either came first, merely pointing out two of the better known frankeners. The explosion started somewhere but I think really, it started with the dissatisfaction with available colors in store bought polish and the price attached. For me it was only natural to collect colors and tweak, I get more out of the creation than the manicures.

    2. Its everywhere here at Brazil we are starting to look for some "real" frankening, not just mixing nail polishes.

    3. Nadia- Funny you say that frankening is popular in Brazil, because I feel like you ladies have such a great selection of polishes! Duo/multi chromes, flakies, holos, etc... I always drool over Brazilian nail blogger's swatches!!

MK- I'm really so happy frankening has taken off. I love to see what others dream up. Crazy glitters are my favorite! Sometimes I wish I would have kept my blog up consistently and focused more on my frankens, but I am glad to have seen the shift and growing popularity over the course of the last 2-3 years that I have been following nail blogs. Even frankening isn't quite so popular anymore. The buzz is custom polish created from fresh new materials.
I often wonder what has happened to Amanda from Dr. Frankenpolish. She left blogging abruptly, without much explanation. She was my go to source for inspiration when began frankening on a more informed level in 2009. I mixed colors as a child/teen, but didn't quite understand what I was doing was so awesome and that other people were/would be doing it too!! :)

    4. Ah, let me guess, someone decided to sub-categorize franken polish too. Not to sound stupid but what’s the difference between frankening and custom polish? I would assume it means not using store bought polish in the formula?

Dr. Frankenpolish was also my main "go to source" in the beginning so I was disappointed to see her go on leave. Her site is still a good reference and I have to say, she took great pictures of her frankens.
